Basic sizes and tolerance classes
To allow for clearance betweenmating internal and external threads,
taps are manufactured with oversize allowances added to the basic
diameters.
These basic diameters plus the oversize allowances establish:
(a) the minimum effective diameter; and
(b) the minimummajor diameter.
